Centrifugal Compressors

In 1996, ECT Inc. and Elliott Turbomachinery Inc. formed an alliance to develop the Relion technologies for cleaning centrifugal compressors. The target application for this partnership is the fouling that plagues compressors used to manufacture ethylene. Other applications that have arisen since then include hydrogen compressors used in petroleum refineries and coke gas compressors used in steel mills.

Fluid injection is used to achieve two events in centrifugal compressors:
1.To inject a cleaner or cleaning additive to a wash oil.
2.To inject water for cooling (many fouling processes are accelerated at higher temperatures).

ECT has developed specialized nozzling for use on low, medium, and high pressure compressors. This nozzling features anti-blow back design, incorporates flow meters, and removes easily to facilitate nozzle cleaning. Injection is accomplished using ECT skids. We have extensive experience building to API and marine specifications. Our skids are in service at refineries, ethylene plants, offshore platforms, and other major installations around the world.
